WWE Talked To NWA, Impact, Others, Billy Corgan Told WWE They Were Proceeding Regardless

In September 2019 the National Wrestling Alliance announced they would debut a new weekly television series.

When NWA first teased the idea of a weekly show, fans speculated on the potential outlet. SmackDown was moving to FOX, NXT had moved to USA Network, and AEW Dynamite was set to debut on TNT during this time. Reports circulated that WWE wanted to have NWA on the Network, but nothing came to fruition.

Speaking to Muscle Man Malcolm, NWA Vice President David Lagana discussed potentially working with WWE on Powerrr.

“There’s articles that ‘we were turned down by this network.’ Nope, we’ve never pitched the show to any networks. We talked to WWE, just like WWE talked to every wrestling promotion. They talked to IMPACT, AAA, CMLL, they literally talked to everybody for the Network. Two days before we announced the show, Billy had a call with them and said, ‘Guys, we’re doing this show with or without you. I’m not waiting around. If you’re interested, great. If not, we’re doing it,'” recalled Lagana.

In the end, NWA Powerrr did not end up on the Network and instead finds a home on YouTube every Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. ET.

NWA Powerrr is currently on hiatus, but the promotion will continue to release content during the coronavirus pandemic.
