Dana White Held A Coronavirus Meeting Today With Fighters, Here’s What White Reportedly Said
UFC President Dana White is holding a pair of meetings with fighters to discuss the coronavirus pandemic, with one of those sessions being held earlier today.
MMA Junkie got wind of what White said during the meeting, with the following being the highlights of what was said by him:
– White repeated multiple times that fighters do not have to compete if they do not feel safe.
– White is confident proceeding with events based on what he learned while being on President Trump’s coronavirus economic task force.
– Locations for events are going to be kept secret.
– White will meet with Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak to discuss reopening the UFC Performance Institute and UFC Apex.
– Fighters from the events postponed/canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic will get “first dibs” when it comes to who competes next.
– White told fighters to reach out if they or their families need help during the coronavirus pandemic.
– White doesn’t want to do too many catchweight fights going forward, says those bouts don’t have as much meaning.
– White said that due to the limits on how many people could be at a certain event, fighters may have to limit the amount of cornermen they bring with them to fights.
– White says that American fighters are allowed to compete on “Fight Island.”
– White stated that UFC International Fight Week ‘20 is doubtful at the moment.
– The UFC will have hospitals on standby and medical staffs at all events.
– White says the plan is to run a UFC event every weekend starting on May 9 with UFC 249.
– White also said that UFC Trifecta Meals from the UFC Performance Institute are on hold, but the issues surrounding that should be fixed soon.
The next coronavirus information session between White and UFC fighters is expected to happen on Monday, April 20.
