Justin Gaethje Issues Statement On UFC 249 Cancellation

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson and former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje were set to battle for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title in the main event of UFC 249, but then ESPN and Disney asked UFC President Dana White to stand down and cancel UFC 249, while postponing future events due to the coronavirus.

Ferguson found out about the cancellation while promoting the event, while it is unknown at this time just how Gaethje found out about the whole ordeal.

Gaethje has since taken to Instagram to comment on the situation:

The UFC is in the midst of building a “Fight Island” and it could be ready to hold events in about a month, so Ferguson and Gaethje may not have to wait too long before fighting again.
