Jim Ross Discusses AEW Running Empty Arena Shows, Says He’s Not Traveling For Two More Weeks
The show goes on for AEW amid the coronavirus pandemic as the promotion has held shows on a closed set at Daily’s Place over the past two weeks.
Jim Ross was noticeably absent from his commentary position last week and won’t be around for the next couple of weeks as he is at a higher risk of suffering from the coronavirus due to his age.
Speaking on Mac Attack on WFNZ, Ross discussed AEW continuing to run empty arena shows and revealed that he wouldn’t be traveling for at least two more weeks.
“The guys that show up, who are willing to battle the virus, have come to play. It’s been a great team effort. To broadcast in an empty arena is daunting. I work off a monitor almost exclusively. I’m not big on watching the ring or looking around, I focus on the TV monitor. The way the show is shot, I don’t see as many empty seats until I look up and survey the surroundings. It’s little nuances that you do. It’s never going to be the same, it is what it is. To say when we’re going to come back live with all of our talent, we have young talent that have young families and their little misses don’t want them to travel. And I don’t blame them. I’m not going to travel for two more weeks because I’m in that high-risk group. I’m hanging like everybody else. We were turning the corner, building momentum, and we’ll pick that back up when we get our team back together,” he said.
Cody and Kenny Omega filled in for Ross on commentary next to Tony Schiavone on last Wednesday’s Dynamite. AEW moved away from Daily’s Place this week, taping in an undisclosed location for segments that will air on Wednesday and future episodes.
