Owen Roddy Says Conor McGregor May Return This July, Could Face Justin Gaethje

Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor last competed at UFC 246, scoring a first round TKO win over Donald Cerrone.

There is no confirmed date for when McGregor could return, but one of his coaches in Owen Roddy says that next bout could happen on July 11.

“Yeah, most definitely. That’s the plan hopefully. Bring the UFC back to life as well with all these shows being canceled and stuff like that,” Roddy said to Ariel Helwani’s Instagram Live Show (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com). “I think a fight on July 11 would bring the UFC back to life and get everybody back on track. My fingers are crossed and I’m sure the rest of the world fingers are crossed for that fight.”

July 11 is the date for the UFC 252 card, which is going to be a part of UFC International Fight Week.

If there is one opponent that Roddy would like to see McGregor face at that event, it would be former WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje.

“Anyone to be honest but you know maybe Gaethje. There is a lot of talks about Gaethje. I mean he is an exciting fighter. I would like to see it, I’m sure you’d like to see it and the rest of the world would like to see it. Yeah potentially that, but to be honest, anyone. I know Conor is ready to go and everyone will be ready to go by the time July comes around,” says Roddy.

UFC 252 takes place on Saturday, July 11 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
