Nashville Fairgrounds/TNA Asylum Being Torn Down This Week

The former TNA Asylum will be torn down this week.

The Tennessean News reports that deconstruction of The Nashville Fairgrounds began on Monday morning. The Fairgrounds was known as the TNA Asylum amongst many wrestling fans and is the venue IMPACT/TNA used to run its weekly pay-per-views from 2002 through 2004.

An announcement was made in 2009 that the Fairgrounds would be moved to a new location in order to build a new Major League Soccer stadium. Back and forth legal maneuverings began after that. The maneuverings ended this past Friday when Davidson County Chancellor Ellen Hobbs declined to enforce a requested injunction, citing the $6,5000 per day costs being incurred by the construction company to hold demolition and project contractors, noting that she was being asked to protect older buildings that were not in use.

The Nashville Fairgrounds Sports Arena was built in 1922 and housed multiple wrestling events over the years. IMPACT recently ran its Homecoming 2019 event from the Fairgrounds and NWA held its 70th Anniversary event in 2018 from the venue.
