Kevin Lee Says It Could Be A Few Years Before He Fights Again

Kevin Lee competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night Brasilia, suffering a third round submission loss to Charles Oliveira.

This loss is a devastating one for Lee, who doesn’t plan on fighting again for at least a few years.

“I think lightweight’s still my home. I’ve just got to fine tune some things. But I’m going to take a long time,” Lee said after the event (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “I kind of rushed into this fight. It will probably be a good minute before y’all see me again. I think I’ve got to evaluate some things. I feel like my camp was great. My coaches told me all the right things to do. I abandoned it. It’s all on me on this one. It’s going to be maybe a few years or so.”

If Lee does follow through with the plan to take a few years off, it would mark the biggest gap between fights in his professional MMA career.

Lee doesn’t plan on doing nothing during the extended break, as the fighter wants to improve on his jiu-jitsu skill set.

“A lot more jiu-jitsu for sure,” Lee said. “I keep losing fights by choke and these guys ain’t even choking me. I’m getting choked. I think I’m choking myself. I’ve got to figure out why.”

There is no exact date set yet for Lee’s return, but the fighter is still ranked #8 in the UFC Lightweight Division at this time.
