Joe Hendry Added To ROH Pure Title Tournament, Ashley Vox Competing In Women’s Title Tournament
Joe Hendry has entered ROH’s tournament to crown a new Pure Champion.
Ring of Honor announced that Hendry is the latest entrant into the tournament, joining a field that includes Marty Scurll, Doug Williams and former IWGP Heavyweight champion Yuji Nagata. Hendry is looking for his first singles title in ROH.
Say his name and he appears – but there is more than what meets the eye to the charismatic Joe Hendry!
Joe Hendry accomplished the rare feet of going into amateur wrestling following his jump into the pro ranks. A talented athlete with an imposing 6’2” frame, Hendry used his athleticism to catapult him quickly into the pro ranks before stepping into the amateur world in 2014.
Hendry rose quickly, winning the 2017 Scottish National Championship in freestyle wrestling and represented Scotland in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The entertaining Hendry has already proven he is a threat to the ROH World Television Championship and ROH World Tag Team Championships, but Hendry enters with much-needed grappling skill and a significant size advantage over most of the competitors in the tournament!
Will Hendry’s knowledge of mat wrestling and submissions carry him to the ROH Pure Championship? The Scot will be a tough out and his skill and size makes him a favorite in the tournament!
Also announced is Ashley Vox entering the tournament to crown a new Women’s World Champion, joining a field that features the likes of Sumie Sakai, Tasha Steelz, Session Moth Martina and Angelina Love.
Ashley Vox, who refers to herself as a “Reel Catch,” has an opportunity to capture the Ring of Honor Women’s World Championship.
She is one of 16 competitors in the tournament to crown a new women’s champion in ROH. The tournament kicks off with eight first-round matches at Quest For Gold in Philadelphia on April 24.
Vox, who has established herself as one of the top female wrestlers on the independent circuit in recent years, impressed ROH officials in the handful of dark matches she competed in for the company in 2018.
She is no stranger to championship gold, as she and her sister Delmi Exo — known collectively as Team Sea Stars — are the reigning Shimmer Tag Team Champions. They ended the 377-day reign of veteran stars Mercedes Martinez and Cheerleader Melissa this past November.
The talent pool in the ROH Women’s World Title tournament is deep, but Vox has the talent to swim with the sharks and make waves.
