Jon Moxley Is Willing To Give Cody An AEW World Title Match Despite Previous Stipulation

New AEW World Champion Jon Moxley welcomes all challengers, even if it means breaking some rules.

Before he faced Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear, Cody announced that if he didn’t beat Jericho, he would never challenge for the AEW World Title again. Cody’s reason was that, as one of four Co-Executive Vice Presidents, he didn’t want to be viewed as someone who put himself in a World Title position due to his power.

Cody lost to Jericho on that night thanks to MJF throwing in the towel on his behalf. And while Cody has been adamant that he and AEW will stick to the stipulation, Jon Moxley is willing to tear it up.

“A year ago, we had a conversation on the phone and said, ‘Let’s bring fucking pro wrestling back!’ Pro wrestling that you grew up on. Not crap, not sports entertainment, not scripted, canned horsecrap. Pro wrestling. I’m telling you, it works. It’s like mac-n-cheese, it’s always good. We brought that back. The guy I had that conversation with was Cody Rhodes, who has put himself in a scenario where he can never get a World Title shot. I’m not gonna play that game. I’m not gonna live in a world where ‘you beat everybody, except for Cody.’ If he feels like he can beat me, he can get in the ring with me. We’re gonna waive the little rule. That’s a cop out. If he thinks he can beat me, I insist he try,” Moxley said at the AEW Revolution media scrum.

Moxley defeated Jericho to win the AEW World Title in the main event at AEW Revolution. Meanwhile, Cody suffered a loss to MJF at the event.
