Cathy Kelley Explains Her Decision To Leave WWE, Wants To Do More Outside Of WWE
On Feb. 14, Cathy Kelley announced she would be leaving WWE. NXT TakeOver: Portland was Kelley’s last official event with the company and she was given a send off by Triple H and The Undisputed Era.
Sitting down with Maria Menounos on Better Together, Kelley explained her decision to leave WWE.
“It was a really hard decision. WWE and wrestling, in general, meant so much to me,” she began. “I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting and I thought about where my journey has taken me. There are so many pivotal moments in my life that felt like either a step back or I was stagnant that when I removed myself, I felt like my life catapulted forward. I’ve always been really good about knowing, if you trust your gut, you know when something isn’t serving you or when it’s the right time to move on. That’s where I was towards the end of being at WWE. It was about timing, trusting my gut, trusting my intuition. I genuinely feel like my journey and career are just beginning.”
Later in the interview, Kelley mentioned she wanted to be an executive producer on a television show, write a screenplay, get into acting and do more in her life. Unfortunately, those goals didn’t seem as attainable while she was on the WWE schedule.
“There are so many things that I want to do and especially with the WWE schedule, it’s so time-consuming because you are traveling so much. Being me, I wanted to do everything. I wanted to work as much as possible and that wouldn’t allow me to do the other things I wanted to do,” she said.
Kelley said that even though she left without having an immediate gig lined up, she’s made enough contacts to where she felt comfortable with her decision.
Kelley was signed by WWE in February 2016 after spending time on AfterBuzz TV. Along with her interviewing duties on television, Kelley was a host for WWE digital.
