Inoue vs. Casimero Announced In Japan, Ilunga Makabu Wins WBC Title | Fight-Size Boxing Update
Here’s your fight-size boxing update for February 1, 2020:
– A press conference was held in Japan today to announce that unified WBA and IBF bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue’s Top Rank debut will be against WBO champion John Riel Casimero on April 25 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. It should be noted that Top Rank has yet to formally announce the bout.
– Ilunga Makabu defeated Michal Cieslak on January 31 by unanimous decision (114-112, 116-111, 115-111) to become the new WBC cruiserweight champion.
– ShoBox’s latest card took place on January 31 at the Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport, Louisiana and here are the results:
- Ruben Villa defeated Alexei Collado by unanimous decision (99-91, 98-92, 98-92) to retain the WBO International featherweight title
- Taras Shelestyuk defeated Luis Alberto Veron by unanimous decision (97-93, 98-92, 98-92)
- Zhora Hamazaryan and Sulaiman Segawa fought to a split draw (76-76, 77-75, 74-78)
– Following his IBF super featherweight title loss to Joseph Diaz Jr., Tevin Farmer underwent a CAT scan and the results were normal, according to promoter Lou DiBella:

– On the January 28 boxing card at Korakuen Hall, Ayaka Miyao and Etsuko Tada fought to a draw for the vacant WBO minimumweight title. Each fighter got one judge to score the bout 96-94 in their favor while the third judge scored it a 95-95 draw, meaning the title remains vacant.
– It doesn’t appear that Andy Ruiz Jr. will face Dillian Whyte any time soon.
