Match Ratings For WWE Raw 1/27/20 From Sean Ross Sapp

Drew McIntyre defeated The OC
Squash

  • Drew McIntyre comes out and says he feels like he’s been dreaming. Drew McIntyre has challenged Brock Lesnar to a WWE Title match at WrestleMania.
  • Drew McIntyre makes an open challenge, and it’s answered by Gallows & Anderson of the OC. Drew says he’ll face both of them.
  • Well, I guess if AJ is hurt, they don’t have much use for a team they’re spending $1.5 mil a year on.
  • Drew McIntyre dominates both of them and wins with a Claymore. He throws both from the ring.
  • Brock Lesnar hits the ring and lays out Drew with an F5. That’s a level of desire we haven’t seen out of Brock in a while.

Rey Mysterio defeated MVP
5.25/10

  • MVP is back on Raw.
  • He gets “you still got it” chants from the crowd. He also gets a great Player’s Boot.
  • This one goes through a commercial after a huracanrana into the barricade on MVP.
  • We get the Ballin’ Elbow! I kinda wish he would have yelled Kobe for that one.
  • Rey gets MVP’s back on a 619 and hits a springboard frog splash to win. That was differently.

Aleister Black defeated Kenneth Johnson
Squash

  • Lawler saying Black’s entrance GIVES HIM THE WILLIES is lame.
  • Either way, Black knocks out Cruiserweight Classic competitor Kenneth Johnson.
  • He says that he’s going after people since they won’t come after him.

WWE Raw Tag Team Championship
Buddy Murphy & Seth Rollins (c) defeated Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe
6/10

  • Owens and Joe don’t believe that Rollins and Murphy won’t get help from AOP.
  • Rollins puts up a video feel of AOP in their locker room. The Viking Raiders attack them, taking them out.
  • Pretty standard action early on. Jerry Lawler is playing more of a heel, which is where he’s best. Even though he’s still not good there.
  • Joe side steps a Murphy dive and throws him over the top rope. In stereo dives from Owens and Joe.
  • Joe eats FLOOR on the dive and is forced to the back. Kevin Owens has to go it alone.
  • Owens has some great nearfalls with a frog splash, pop up powerbomb and a Swanton.
  • Owens hits a Stunner on Rollins, but Murphy rolls him up for the win.

Backstage Crappenings

  • Becky Lynch says she’s doubted herself for months, but last night made her realize that she’s in a totally different league than everyone else. She says if Charlotte challenges her, it won’t be the first time but it’ll be the last time.
  • Street Profits are backstage and Kelly Kelly gets NO reaction.

WWE United States Championship
Humberto Carrillo defeated Andrade (c) (w/ Zelina) by DQ
5.75/10

  • Humberto Carrillo is a lot more aggressive starting out, but gets cut off.
  • The action here is good as expected. Whether intended or not, I liked the hesitation springboard from Humberto.
  • I could get behind a more aggressive Humberto, or a sadistic one, but I don’t know that I’ve seen anything but cool moves from him.
  • There are plenty here.
  • He does a moonsault and Zelina breaks up the pinfall for the DQ.
  • Carrillo goes off and Hammerlock DDTs Andrade on the floor. Humberto gets a good pop for this too

Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka via DQ (w/ Kairi Sane)
5.5/10

  • Charlotte comes out and runs a clip of her winning the Royal Rumble.
  • She teases her announcement but says she’s still deciding.
  • The Kabuki Warriors come out and cut a promo. Asuka says she would have won if she was in the Royal Rumble.
  • The two battle back and forth until they go to a commercial after a tumble outside.
  • Charlotte gets a huge boot on Asuka. The crowd isn’t much into this.
  • The moonsault is truly Charlotte’s Ric top rope spot.
  • Asuka lcoks on
  • I wouldn’t mind Asuka losing to a top singles name here because she has tag titles to defend now. But it ends in a DQ when Kairi hits an Insane Elbow in the middle of a Figure Eight.

WWE 24/7 Championship
Mojo Rawley (c) (w/ Riddick Moss) defeated No Way Jose
R-Truth defeated Mojo Rawley (c) (w/ Riddick Moss) to win the title
Mojo Rawley (w/ Riddick Moss) defeated R-Truth (c) to win the title

  • Riddick Moss is with Mojo. I’ve heard Riddick Moss has re-signed with WWE.
  • Mojo crushes Jose, then gets rolled up by a mascot. It’s R-Truth.
  • Riddick attacks and Mojo wins the title back.

Liv Morgan defeated Lana
5/10 (Short)

  • There is no real heat for a story they’ve spent four months on.
  • Lana isn’t out of her depth here, she’s just fine.
  • Liv’s double stomp in the corner and flatliner are good. She wins.

Erick Rowan beats jobber
SQUASH

  • Rowan crushes. You know the drill.
  • C’mon. I don’t need any more of these.
  • He uses a modified Jackhammer and a Claw Slam to win.

EDGE

  • Edge is out to a huge pop.
  • I’m so surprised to see Edge back, just seeing how content he looked living in Asheville kayaking and stuff
  • Edge says “damn right I do,” when the crowd says he’s still got it.
  • He says he started to feel better and got back in the ring on his own terms.
  • He mentions a bunch of names and says he hopes to see them down the line.
  • He knows he’s older, but it’s the road map that got him here.
  • Randy Orton comes out and hugs Edge.
  • He says Edge was always there for him and pitches a reunion. Then hits an RKO.
  • Orton uses a chair on Edge, who sells great.
  • He teases Pillmanizing Edge’s neck, but instead does a conchairto.

Rating Guide
10- Perfect, 9- MOTY Territory, 8- Excellent, 7- Great, 6- Good, 5- Average to above average, 4- Slightly below average, 3 or below: Poor

Each match starts at a 5 and slides up and down based on entertainment, execution, time, environment, reaction and stakes. The ratings are in no way an indication of a “star rating,” which is a completely different system. A standard, non-offensive “TV match” lands at a 5. The gap between 5.75-6 is generally the largest, with anything reaching 6 being recommended viewing.
These are opinions, and incredibly inconsistent ones that may change upon a second viewing, or sitting on the match for a period of time. Don’t take them too seriously, and have (and share) your own!
