Adam Kownacki vs. Robert Helenius Set For PBC On FOX Main Event On March 7
Adam Kownacki is looking to move one step closer to challenging for a world title when he headlines a PBC on FOX card in March.
PBC announced that Kownacki will take on Robert Helenius in the main event of a PBC on FOX card on March 7 from the Barclays Center. The fight is being advertised as a WBA heavyweight title eliminator. The current WBA “Super” champion is Anthony Joshua while Mahmoud Charr and Trevor Bryan hold the WBA’s secondary and interim heavyweight titles, respectively.
Kownacki, the unbeaten Polish fighter who has been a mainstay on many PBC cards in Brooklyn, is coming off a thrilling back-and-forth fight against Chris Arreola last August that broke a record for punches thrown in a heavyweight fight. Kownacki, who is ranked in the top 10 by the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF, won that bout by unanimous decision in his first main event fight at the Barclays Center.
Helenius has been fighting as a professional since 2008, facing a number of notable heavyweights such as Dillian Whyte, Gerald Washington and Johann Duhaupass. Helenius last fought in November when he scored a second-round TKO victory over Mateus Roberto Osorio.
Also announced for the show is undefeated heavyweight prospect Efe Ajagba taking on an opponent to be named at a later date. Ajagba, who competed in the 2016 Olympics, has won all 12 of his pro bouts and is coming off a fifth-round knockout win over Iago Kiladze.
The opening bout of the televised portion of the event is a heavyweight fight between top prospect Frank Sanchez and veteran Joey Dawejko.
