John Cena Goes Without A Wrestling Match For A Year For The First Time In His Career
John Cena‘s time is not now.
For the first time in his pro wrestling career, John Cena has went a 365 days without a wrestling match. With his last match being January 14, 2019 in a top contender match against Baron Corbin, Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor, Cena passed the year-long mark just this week.
The 16-time champion has noted that he will participate in WrestleMania, which he hopes to do every year, but wants to earn his spot on the show. Cena hasn’t been without appearances, however. He showed up at WrestleMania 35 decked in his “Doctor of Thuganomics” gear to interrupt an Elias concert, and then had a rap battle with The Usos at Raw Reunion back in July.
A busy schedule has led to Cena’s WWE appearances being few and far between. He wrestled eight matches in 2019, 28 in 2018, 76 in 2017, and 50 in 2016 respectively after over a decade of being the company’s “iron man.” During that period, he never missed more than a few months due to injury.
Cena’s new and upcoming projects include Dolittle, Project X-Traction, Fast & Furious 9, and The Suicide Squad.
