Report: Darren Till Stepping In At UFC 248, Facing Jared Cannonier

Jared Cannonier was in need of a new opponent for UFC 248 after the withdrawal of former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker and now he has one because Darren Till has reportedly agreed to step in on short notice.

Amy Kaplan of Fan Sided first reported the news and the bout is expected to be a part of the main card.

Cannonier (13-4-0) enters the contest while in the midst of a three fight winning streak, having defeated David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson. Cannonier has competed at three different weight classes in the UFC, earning an overall record of 6-4-0 in the promotion. Cannonier has picked up thirteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and nine of them have come by way of KO/TKO.

Till (18-2-1) has been undefeated thus far since moving up to middleweight, defeating Kelvin Gastelum by split decision at UFC 244. Till has previously challenged for the UFC Welterweight Title, losing to then champion Tyron Woodley by second round submission at UFC 228. Till has picked up eighteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and ten of those wins came by way of KO/TKO.

UFC 248 takes place on Saturday, March 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
