Sergio Pettis Defends Brother During Issues With USADA

UFC veteran Sergio Pettis makes his Bellator MMA debut next weekend at Bellator 238, facing Alfred Khashakyan in a bantamweight division encounter.

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis, who is Sergio’s brother, has stated that a potential lawsuit is coming against USADA and Sergio says that what happened to Anthony could’ve thrown his game off at UFC 241.

“I was out in the crowd and his fiancee came out and told me the news. It’s unnecessary bulls—t that shouldn’t have to happen before a fight,” Pettis said to Bloody Elbow. “When you go into these big fights, you need to be mentally and physically ready. Some little things like that will throw you off mentally. Fighting is very mental. I’m not saying that affected the outcome.”

Anthony claims that he was cut from a bottle given by USADA to collect a pre-fight urine sample before a bout against Nate Diaz at UFC 241.

Sergio also has to focus on his upcoming Bellator MMA debut and the fighter is happy to be with the promotion.

“Bellator presented a beautiful opportunity for me. I was honestly scared to be a free agent for a little bit, but it played out to my favor. It’s cool to be in a new world, a new organization,” he said. “I had to really sit back and weigh out the positives and negatives. Everything pointed to Bellator right now. Why not take a chance and why not possibly grow my name more elsewhere?

Bellator 238 takes place on Saturday, January 25 from The Forum in Inglewood, California with Julia Budd and Cyborg headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on DAZN.
