The Young Bucks: Being The Elite Humanized Us

The Young Bucks started ‘Being The Elite’ in 2016 to chronicle their journey as independent wrestlers. Over the years, the show transformed into a storyline companion and has now become part of All Elite Wrestling. Matt & Nick Jackson went from questioning whether they should continue to wrestle to co-Executive Vice Presidents of the second-biggest wrestling promotion in the United States.

Speaking to Jimmy Varsallone of the Miami Herald, the Bucks discussed their journey and how Being The Elite helped them get to where they are.

“The Bullet Club blowing up and becoming what it was. We had a really hot feud with The Hardyz and that helped put us on the map and get more eyeballs on us. We had a strong body of work at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and it was almost this hip, underground culture and you had to seek it out and the only way you could watch it was buying the DVD, which people didn’t really do anymore. But people would still buy the DVD and it would create this hype and we developed this cult following. Once Being The Elite got really hot, that’s where we really started to notice a difference. We used it as a place to really show the people who we were and what we’re like in real life. We weren’t just these guys who came out with fringe, tassels, and neon colors and did superkicks. We were people. It humanized us. Once people got to see what we were like behind the curtain, that was probably the main thing. Once we let people into our homes, that’s when things really started to change,” said Matt Jackson.

New episodes of Being The Elite premiere every week on YouTube. In an interview with Fightful, Brandon Cutler discussed what it’s like to film the series alongside Matt & Nick. You can read his comments by clicking here
