Report: Ben Rothwell vs. Gian Villante Added To UFC 249

A heavyweight division attraction is the latest addition to UFC 249 as Ben Rothwell is in action against Gian Villante.

Mark La Monica of Newsday first reported the bout, but its placement on the card isn’t known at this time.

Rothwell (37-12-0) has won just one of his last four under the UFC banner, with that lone win coming over Stefan Struve at UFC Fight Night Washington DC. Rothwell hasn’t picked up a victory on a UFC pay-per-view card in over six years, with that last win coming at UFC 164 in August of 2013. Rothwell has picked up thirty seven wins as a professional MMA fighter and twenty eight of them came by way of KO/TKO.

Villante (17-11-0) is making his UFC Heavyweight Division debut in this bout, having previously competed in the promotion at light heavyweight. Villante is going to be returning to action for the first time in over a year, as his last bout took place in February of 2019. Villante has suffered eleven losses as a professional MMA fighter and six of them came by way of decision.

UFC 249 takes place on Saturday, April 18 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
