Cody Rhodes Says AEW’s Bash At The Beach Won’t Be Like WCW’s Version Of The Show
With “Bash at the Beach” returning next week on AEW Dynamite, Cody spoke on how it all came about.
In an interview with The New York Post, Cody mentioned how he was locking down “old-school wrestling IPs” and wanted to give these next two episodes of AEW Dynamite something special. While the January 15 episode is the titular “Bash at the Beach” special, it will just be one-half of what Dynamite has in store with the January 22 episode taking place on Chris Jericho‘s cruise.
“I think it was something we were kicking around because I had looked into and trademarked some old-school wrestling IPs (intellectual properties), and we were looking at the two weeks where you have the cruise itself and the actual Miami show as kind of like a two-week special. That’s actually what it is, a two-week special, because they will be codependent on each other. We wanted to give it a theme and it ended up being “Bash at the Beach” because I had the IP and wanted to use it in a fun way and not do something that’s been done before, but do our own version of it,” Cody said.
But in addressing some concerns that this upcoming version of “Bash at the Beach” will just be a rehashing of WCW’s version of the shows that took place from 1994-2000, Cody said AEW’s version will be different.
“I think we were more looking from the standpoint of, “Oh, this would be fun.” And then you do see a few things like that like, “Oh, it’s a WCW concept,” but it’s a concept my dad had a part in creating. We are not really doing anything that was on any of their Bash at the Beaches,” Cody said.
This upcoming edition of Bash at the Beach will feature the in-ring return of Diamond Dallas Page and Pac vs. Darby Allin.
