Tony Harrison vs. Jermell Charlo 2 Averages 1.65 Million Viewers For Entire PBC On FOX Broadcast
FOX’s final PBC card of 2019 finished strong in terms of viewership numbers.
According to Showbuzz Daily, the December 21 PBC on FOX card headlined by the rematch between Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo for the WBC junior middleweight title averaged 1.65 million viewers and drew a 1.07 household rating. In the 18-49 demographic, the event averaged 552,000 viewers and a 0.4 rating.
Only one event generated a higher viewership number and that was in January when Keith Thurman defeated Josesito Lopez to retain the WBA “Super” welterweight title. That broadcast averaged 1.98 million viewers.
Charlo dropped Harrison three times throughout the fight, leading to an 11th-round stoppage victory to win back the WBC title. The fight was a rematch from their December 2018 bout that saw Harrison win the title with a close decision win. They were supposed to have a rematch earlier this year, but Harrison suffered an injury that forced the bout to be postponed.
The other two fights on the card saw rising prospect Karlos Balderas suffer a shocking upset loss to Rene Tellez Giron, losing his undefeated record. The co-main event featured a heavyweight fight between Efe Ajagba and Iago Kiladze. Ajagba ended up winning the fight by stopping him in the fifth round, but not before Kiladze sent Ajagba to the canvas.
PBC’s next FOX card will take place on January 18 in Philadelphia and will be headlined by Julian Williams vs. Jeison Rosario for the unified WBA “Super” and IBF junior middleweight titles.
