Ryback Doesn’t See Triple H Sticking Around Like Vince McMahon, Thinks Fox-Disney Will Buy WWE
In February 2020, the XFL is set to re-launch with Vince McMahon once again at the helm. The re-launch of the XFL could mean Vince has less time to spend focusing on WWE.
Earlier this year, McMahon admitted that he could no longer get in the weeds like he used to, which is why he appointed Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff (now Bruce Prichard) Executive Directors of Raw and SmackDown.
Ryback believes Vince is slowly beginning to make moves to eventually sell WWE to a larger organization.
“I think there’s something going on with Fox and Disney, and I think if they take over WWE at some point, which I firmly believe they will. 100%. That is my personal opinion,” Ryback stated to Chris Van Vliet. “I don’t see Hunter sticking around like Vince. Just from stuff that I feel like I understand (and) what’s going on. Someone has to take it over and they’ve gotten so big, it’s going to take someone like that to run. Personally, they have dumbed down the product and made it very simple to run for a big corporation to takeover. Take out the psychology that made it and anyone can run it.”
Ryback continued, “Vince has already handed over to Fox on decisions, on SmackDown. It’s already going on. He’s never been like that before. I believe it’s the first part in the process with the XFL coming up. Running a major football promotion, do you know how much time and effort that takes? I think it’s the beginning steps of something bigger going on.”
Fox Sports, the home of WWE, is a separate company from Disney, which merged with 21st Century Fox in March.
After Vince sold 3 million shares of WWE stock in March to reportedly fund Alpha Entertainment/XFL, WWE released a statement that noted McMahon “intends to continue in his capacity as the Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for the foreseeable future.” McMahon would sell another 2,627 shares in July.
