Cody: Our Entire Infrastructure Is Public, AEW Will Rise Or Fall Based On Our Own Merit
On Monday night, AEW announced Hikura Shida vs. Kris Statlander had been signed for Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite. Shida and Statlander teamed on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, losing to Bea Priestley & Emi Sakura.
A fan on social media questioned the match, believing no one, including AEW announcer Jim Ross, knows who the women are. Cody offered up the following response.
???
Both these talented women have been on the show before. Shida is in the top-5.

Shida is currently the #1 ranked woman in the latest AEW Power Rankings.
The discussion continued, with a fan noting to Cody that characters and stories are how AEW will win the audience. The fan also noted that AEW bases philosophies on what is written in the Wrestling Observer, which Cody didn’t believe to be valid.
Why am I tagged in this friend?
I’m not Meltzer(he’s been equally critically of me…remember all in and how it started ha?). I’m also not my dad.
No need to stir up drama on a random Monday night. This is a beautiful time to be a wrestler and a fan. Do the work & have fun.

That’s nonsense. Our entire infrastructure is public. Who’s doing what and so forth. I know that’s a “brand” narrative, but it’s 100% not accurate. We will rise or fall based on our own merit. The right way.

You know that I’m the actual human being in the actual company having a polite discourse and telling you what’s real right ha?
There’s not much more I can do than that.

Cody dropped the discussion after that tweet. As reported on Monday, NXT defeated AEW in viewership for the second straight week. However, AEW continues to win the 18 to 49 demographic rating.
Fightful will have live coverage of AEW Dynamite beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
