Match Ratings For WWE Raw 12/2/19 From Sean Ross Sapp

Opening segment

  • AOP are shown backstage and speak in Albanian to Charly Caruso. She says she needs a translation, and they call her beautiful.
  • Seth Rollins comes out and apologizes for the things that he said last week, and says he was trying to fire up his Raw roster.
  • Kevin Owens uses a Meghan Trainor line.
  • Kevin Owens drops a BULLSHIT line that’s really drawn out. He doesn’t believe that Rollins is sorry, or that Rollins doesn’t know about AOP’s involvement in things last week.
  • AOP challenge Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins to a match. Rollins is all about it. Owens isn’t falling for it.
  • Rollins leaves, and AOP allows it.
  • Owens wants to fight AOP, but they leave.

Kevin Owens defeated Bobby Lashley (w/ Lana) via DQ
5/10

  • Owens makes an open challenge to fight anyone.
  • After a commercial, Lana comes out. They just did this match last night and it was pointless, as good as it may be.
  • Kevin Owens and Lana yell at each other. This is stupid as hell, but I rather enjoy it. Kevin Owens is all of us during this dumbass storyline we’re sitting through each week.
  • We go to commercial after an Owens splash outside.
  • Owens kicks out of a Yokosuka Cutter. Owens does a pop-up powerbomb.
  • Another DQ finish, as AOP come out and attack Owens. Cool, man. Another DQ.
  • There are big Rusev Day chants through all of this.
  • Lashley says he doesn’t know about AOP, but he’s glad Lana is safe. Lana is sick of all the booing. She has to hire detectives to protect her.
  • Rusev shows up and attacks Bobby Lashley, and dances around. He’s very very over, so at least there’s that.
  • Rusev kinda stalking Lana on this show.
  • Charly Caruso follows everyone around with a mic. THE DETECTIVE IS A WWE FAN. WHAT?
  • WHY IS LASHLEY BEING ARRESTED? WHAT HE DO!? HE’S INNOCENT.
  • Lana slaps a detective — that she hired — and is arrested.
  • Rollins leaving at 9:30 like the LEADER OF THE BRAND. He says he tried to apologize to Owens, and then gets aggressive and says he can never win.

Drew McIntyre defeated Akira Tozawa
6/10

  • Drew McIntyre is trying to clown Tozawa and tells him to leave. He says he’ll beat Tozawa’s ass.
  • Tozawa beats his own ass by eating floor on a dive.
  • BammaSlamma on the floor. Drew then throws Tozawa across the ring.
  • Tozawa fights back and eats a Claymore. This ruled. This was one of the better three or four minute matches you’ll see.
  • Drew McIntyre gets a cheap Nashville pop and says he’s tired of people complaining on social media. He’s going right to Randy Orton because he has a problem with him.
  • Drew gets Randy out and basically puts him out to pasture verbally. He says the RKO is out and the Claymore is in.
  • When Drew makes fun of Nashville, Joe says “that’s how they talk!”
  • The OC interrupt, and AJ Styles is flabbergasted still. He wants to fight Randy Orton tonight.
  • Drew McIntyre hits the bricks because this isn’t his problem anymore. Seems like it’d be Ricochet’s problem, since Orton saves him and helps him a lot.
  • There are four sides to a ring, OC blocked off three of them. Okay.
  • Ricochet and Carrillo make the save. Yep. Here we go.
  • Rey Mysterio is next to help out.

Aleister Black defeated Tony Nese
5.5/10

  • I guess Tony Nese is on Raw now.
  • They have a nice exchange to kick off the match. We see Aleister’s good striking, but Nese does the Savage Snap.
  • A poor knee raise looks more like Nese moonsaults Black’s leg. Joe covers for this though.
  • Black Mass gets the win. Another good, short match.
  • As if I didn’t wish Raw was two hours already, these exceptional short matches makes me realize what a good fit it’d be.
  • Buddy Murphy doesn’t regret knocking on Black’s door. He wants to expose Black as a fraud and tells him to CALM DOWN.
  • Charly Caruso earning that downside guarantee tonight.

Andrade (w/ Zelina) defeated Eric Young
5/10

  • Good to see Eric Young on Raw.
  • He ends up getting a big flying elbow drop, but gets cracked with Andrade’s elbow.
  • Young has a few hope spots but falls victim to Andrade’s signature spots.

WWE 24/7 Championship
Kyle Busch defeated R-Truth (c) to become champion

  • R-Truth runs through with the title and hides by some NASCAR guys
  • Michael Waltrip reveals a ref shirt and Kyle Busch becomes 24/7 Champion.
  • It’s time to shit can this story and do something else. It’s been the same forever. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT.

Erick Rowan defeated No Way Jose (w/ Conga Line)
SQUASH

  • We get another ROWAN BAG PROMO.
  • The Conga line tries to look in the bag and then they die.
  • No Way Jose comes to help and gets beaten up.
  • Two Iron Claw Slams do the job.
  • Rowan won’t tell Sarah Schreiber what’s in the bag.

Kabuki Warriors defeated Charlotte Flair
6.25/10

  • Asuka and Kairi Sane have new music. It’s better than the mash up.
  • They cut a promo in Japanese, which works for them.
  • They attack Charlotte Flair before the match. Vic bringing up Charlotte breaking Asuka’s streak, and Asuka still being pissed is great.
  • The brawling is kind of sloppy here. Charlotte makes a comeback before the commercial.
  • QUADRUPLE KNEES on a Moonsault attempt from Charlotte Flair.
  • Charlotte applies a Walls of Jericho, but Asuka kicks her in the head.
  • Charlotte counters an armbar into a sitdown powerbomb.
  • This is a really good fight. Not necessarily a smooth technical wrestling match, but a hell of a fight.
  • Charlotte has a Figure Eight applied on Asuka, but Kairi Sane hits an Insane Elbow and pins her.
  • This was a lot of fun.
  • No Becky Lynch again this week.

Viking Raiders crush Jobbers
SQUASH

  • Erik knees jobber 1 in the face, and tries to make him tag out, but the other partner runs.
  • He doesn’t get far. He’s mowed down outside.
  • Viking Raiders kill these guys. There’s a huge double knees to the chest.
  • Viking Experience. That’s it.

The OC defeated Ricochet, Rey Mysterio and Humberto Carrillo
5.25/10

  • Can Humberto beat up Ricochet or something? I don’t need another meaningless 6 or 8 man tag.
  • Carrillo gets worked over big time until Rey gets tagged in.
  • Anderson stops a 619 and rams Mysterio into the post.
  • Mysterio gets his beatings next before Ricochet tags in. This is paint by numbers.
  • There are big dives and signature moves all over, but this match is PAINFULLY pointless.
  • Styles hits a Super Styles Clash on Ricochet and gets the win.
  • Sure. I’ve seen this a hundred times this year in WWE.
  • Orton shows up and RKOs Styles.

Rating guide

10- Perfect, 9- MOTY Territory, 8- Excellent, 7- Great, 6- Good, 5- Average to above average, 4- Slightly below average, 3 or below: Poor

Each match starts at a 5 and slides up and down based on entertainment, execution, time, environment, reaction and stakes. The ratings are in no way an indication of a “star rating,” which is a completely different system. A standard, non-offensive “TV match” lands at a 5. The gap between 5.75-6 is generally the largest, with anything reaching 6 being recommended viewing.
These are opinions, and incredibly inconsistent ones that may change upon a second viewing, or sitting on the match for a period of time. Don’t take them too seriously, and have (and share) your own!
