Report: Valentina Shevchenko Defends Title Against Katlyn Chookagian At UFC 247
A women’s flyweight title defense could be coming to UFC 247 as Valentina Shevchenko puts the gold on the line against #1 Katlyn Chookagian.
Ariel Helwani of ESPN reported the bout, it is unknown if the bout will headline the card.
Shevchenko (18-3-0) is making the third defense of her championship, previously defending it against Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche. Shevchenko has previously challenged for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title, losing to Amanda Nunes by split decision at UFC 215. Shevchenko has suffered three losses as a professional MMA fighter, with all of them coming to fighters who have held or challenged for UFC gold.
Chookagian (13-2-0) enters the contest on a two fight losing streak, defeating the duo of Joanne Calderwood and Jennifer Maia. Chookagian has seen her last eight fights go the distance and it has been over three years since the fighter got a finish. Chookagian is a former CFFC Women’s Flyweight Champion, defeating Isabelly Varela to win the gold at CFFC 55.
