RUSH: Leaving CMLL Was The Best Decision I Could Make For My Career

RUSH shared his thoughts on leaving CMLL earlier this year.

In an interview conducted in Spanish with Solo Wrestling, RUSH revealed when he knew he had to make the decision to leave CMLL. RUSH said becoming the first Mexican to ever win the ROH World Championship when he beat Matt Taven at Death Before Dishonor is what gave him the confidence to leave CMLL and try his best to become the top wrestler in the world.

His issues with CMLL have been well-documented and he has openly spoken against the current regime after the passing of the previous owner Paco Alonso.

“I finally noticed what I am worth as a wrestler. I did what no Mexican wrestler was able to do and that is to become the first Mexican to win a title of such prestige, that the best in the world has previously, some of whom are in WWE right now. Imagine, that’s what gave me the strength to take this step,” RUSH said.

RUSH would go on and say that he was grateful for CMLL and Alonso for giving him the opportunity to wrestle and grow for more than a decade. But there came a point where RUSH wanted to have bigger opportunities as a wrestler and after talking it over with his father, La Bestia Del Ring, leaving CMLL was the best decision he could make for his career.

“I gave a lot: sacrifices, my soul… I gave it my all in every event, whenever I was in Arena Mexico. Anyone that came, I would take care of as if we were in my house, but I seek opportunities. I wanted to grow and over there, I felt like I was getting stuck. When I won the [ROH] title, that was when I finally noticed what I am capable of doing. Why not test the waters competing in independent territories. Pick and choose, be my own boss. ROH supports me and I want to keep growing in Mexico because I am from Mexico and I’m honored by that… Alongside my father, I feel like I made the best decision for my career,” RUSH said.
