Dana White Says The UFC Is Working On Conor McGregor’s Return, Could Fight Donald Cerrone
The former champion recently stated that he is looking to return to the Octagon on January 18 and UFC President Dana White says that the promotion is working on putting it all together.
“Yes, we will have a fight card in (Las Vegas), but we’ve got to get it done,” White said in an interview with The Schmo (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “The fight is not done yet, you know? (McGregor) had a press conference and announced he was coming back, but no deals were done. No fights are done. No contracts have been signed. But yes, that’s what we’re looking to do.”
In a separate interview with TMZ Sports (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting), one fighter White says McGregor could face upon his return is Donald Cerrone.
“We have nothing done,” White said. “Nothing is even close to being done, so I hate to even talk about this stuff and say it because it might not happen. It might happen, but we’re looking at “Cowboy” [Donald Cerrone]. No. 3 versus No. 5, Jan. 18 at the T-Mobile [Arena] in Las Vegas.”
McGregor hasn’t picked up a victory in nearly three years, with his last win coming over former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. A plethora of fighters have called out McGregor for a bout on January 18, with some of those fighters being Justin Gaethje, Donald Cerrone, former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar and others. The Irishman, despite having not won a bout in nearly three years, is still ranked #3 in the UFC Lightweight Division.
