Dana White Shuts Down McGregor vs. Edgar
However, it would appear that McGregor versus Edgar isn’t going to happen according to White.
“I said it leading into the Mayweather fight, ‘he may never fight again after this fight when you make this kind of money,” White said to the Boston Herald (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com). “He’s fought once since then. Conor loves to fight and wants to fight again, but the Frankie Edgar fight isn’t going to happen.”
Edgar was open to the bout against McGregor, as he told the Irishman to have White put the fight together.
White says the fact that Edgar is going to be at bantamweight and McGregor has competed at welterweight is a reason to also keep them apart.
“Edgar is two weight classes below him,” White said. “[Edgar] was supposed to fight Aljamain Sterling. Aljamain fell out and got hurt. Frankie is coming to the end of his career, and he could end up getting himself into a title position again. To take the Conor fight makes no sense.”
There has been no response from either McGregor or Edgar as to shooting their potential bout down.
