EXCLUSIVE: Sami Callihan: ‘Intergender Wrestling Should Just Be Called Pro Wrestling’
Professional wrestling is more akin to a Marvel movie rather than a sporting contest, at least according to Sami Callihan, that is.
Sami Callihan challenged Brian Cage for the IMPACT World Championship at Bound For Glory, but it took him about an extra week before he captured it at the IMPACT TV tapings. However, Callihan has spent much of the year feuding with Tessa Blanchard. The two went to war in the main event of this year’s Slammiversary and Callihan even had to defeat Tessa to earn his Bound For Glory title shot.
Speaking with Fightful’s Denise Salcedo, Sami opened up about his rivalry with Tessa Blanchard and why he feels he term intergender wrestling should be abolished,
“Everyone always wants to talk about Tessa,” he laughed. “The thing with Tessa Blanchard, I don’t think it should be intergender wrestling anymore. It’s just professional wrestling. In 2019, it’s all about equality and it’s okay to see someone like the Incredible Hulk fight Black Widow, or it’s okay to see Storm from the X-Men have to fight Magneto. Professional wrestling can have more in the lines of Game of Thrones than they do sometimes a professional sporting contest. Sure, we some of the best athletes in the world today, but we can also do truly remarkable stories.”
Many expect Callihan to resume his feud with Tessa Blanchard, as the two had a face-off at the most recent IMPACT tapings after him winning the title.
