Dana White Gives A Timeline For Conor McGregor’s Potential Return

Former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor hasn’t been seen in action since suffering a fourth round submission loss to UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229.

McGregor recently took to Twitter to say that he wanted to fight in Ireland on December 14, which is the same day as UFC 245:

UFC President Dana White stated that McGregor could compete at UFC 245 in he chooses, or the Irishman can return in early 2020.

“I’m sure you saw his tweet,” White stated during a recent fan Q&A (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “Conor wants to fight Dec. 14 in Dublin, but we have a fight in Vegas. So if he doesn’t fight on that card, he’ll fight early next year.”

Whenever McGregor does step back into the Octagon, it will give him a chance to end a long slump, as the fighter hasn’t picked up a victory since defeating Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC Lightweight Title at UFC 205 in November of 2016.

MMA Fighting is also reporting that if McGregor does make his return at UFC 245, a potential opponent could be former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier, whom McGregor defeated back at UFC 178 in September of 2014.
