Mikey Garcia Wants To Face Manny Pacquiao In 2020
It’s been months since Mikey Garcia last stepped foot in the ring and although it was in a losing effort, he still plans to have big fights down the road.
Garcia spoke with ESPN Deportes to give an update on his future and what it has in store. Garcia last fought in March when he lost to IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. That was Garcia’s attempt to win a title in a fifth weight class and despite the loss to Spence, Garcia still has not shut down a second attempt at winning a 147-pound world title.
In fact, Garcia said he would love to have a fight against the likes of Manny Pacquiao, who currently holds the WBA welterweight title after beating Keith Thurman in Las Vegas this past July.
“We haven’t decided what to do next, but I would like to have a fight before the end of the year and then look for a big fight, like with Manny Pacquiao. I think that would be my goal, but there are lots of plans, interesting things to watch. The loss to Spence hasn’t closed any doors for me for anything,” Garcia said.
After the loss to Spence, Garcia would go on to vacate his WBC lightweight title as he isn’t able to immediately go back to lightweight after spending several weeks bulking up to fight at welterweight for the fight against Spence. Vasiliy Lomachenko would go on to win the WBC title held by Garcia as Garcia is still debating whether to stay at welterweight or go back down to junior welterweight.
