Cesaro Still Wants To Be WWE Champion, But He Can “Only Control What He Can”

Cesaro is still searching for gold.

The King of the Ring tournament kicked off last night on WWE Raw with two first-round matches. The first official match of the tournament saw Cesaro fall at the hands of Samoa Joe, officially ending Cesaro’s bid to become King of the Ring. Prior to his loss to Joe, Cesaro had hopes of using the King of the Ring to catapult himself into bigger things.

“I plan on having a crowning ceremony with a crown, robe, and a scepter,” Cesaro told Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated. “That’s my next step to the world championship. Becoming world champion, that’s my goal every single day. That’s what I’m working toward. I’m working so hard and I don’t want to let anyone down.”

Cesaro has been a featured player on WWE television for years but has not held singles gold since losing the United States Title in 2013.

“I can only control what I can,” said Cesaro. “Any time I step in the ring, I try to put on a spectacle. That’s why there is nothing like seeing me live. Me and Ricochet put on one of my favorite matches of the year in Japan that no one will likely see outside of that crowd there, and I had some really fun matches with Braun Strowman recently on live events, as well. I’m controlling what I can control as hard as I can.”

Even though Cesaro hasn’t had much singles success in recent years, he’s become one of the most prominent tag team wrestlers, holding the Tag Team Titles on six different occasions with Tyson Kidd (once) and Sheamus (five times). Cesaro admitted that “the split from Sheamus left me in an empty void.”

Sheamus hasn’t wrestled since the SmackDown after WrestleMania 35. He recently stated that he is trying to get better to return to the ring, but there is no update on when we may see him in the squared circle again.
