Update On The Direction Of NXT’s Cable TV Future
In an update to yesterday’s story about NXT potentially moving to the USA Network, Mike Johnson of PWInsider is reporting that there are some within WWE who believe that the USA deal is done and it’s just a matter of time before an announcement is made.
However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has recently reported similar internal feelings in regards to a potential deal with FOX and FS1. One of the known obstacles for a potential NXT move to FS1 is the contractual obligation the network has to air Big East basketball on Wednesday nights.
The report notes that NXT staff have been told that they should begin preparing for a longer show and that things will be changing very soon.
A source within WWE is reportedly saying that live shows could launch as early as September 11, with that show acting like a pilot run before another set of tapings the following night. then, the brand would move into a weekly live structure in October.
if this were to come to fruition, this would allow NXT to get the jump on All Elite Wrestling insecure that Wednesday night cable slot prior to AEW even debuting on TNT.
As of now, there is no change to the current NXT taping schedule which is currently slated for September 11 and 12 and then another taping scheduled for October 12.
