Jaime Munguia vs. Patrick Allotey Set For September 14 On DAZN, Ryan Garcia On Card

Canelo Alvarez may not get his September 14 fight date, but Jaime Munguia will take that spot in his next world title defense.

Golden Boy Promotions announced a card taking place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California that will be streamed on DAZN and will feature Munguia in the main event. Munguia will defend his WBO junior middleweight title against Patrick Allotey. The fight date was originally was reserved for Alvarez’s next fight, but after not securing an opponent, his in-ring return was pushed back.

Munguia has held the WBO title since May 2018 when he defeated Sadam Ali in New York. Since then, Munguia has made four successful titles with his most recent one being a controversial majority decision win against then-mandatory challenger Dennis Hogan in April.

Allotey started his career winning his first 30 bouts, but after suffering two straight losses, he would go on to win 10 of his next 11 fights. Allotey, the current WBO Africa junior middleweight champion, has not fought since a unanimous decision win against Sherif Kasongo last December in Ghana.

In the co-main event, unbeaten rising star Ryan Garcia will take on Avery Sparrow in a 10-round lightweight bout. Garcia has quickly turned himself into a potential contender after linking up with Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso, winning his last two fights since bringing Reynoso on board.

The company also announced a number of undercard fights that feature the likes of Pablo Cesar Cano and Azat Hovhannisyan competing in separate bouts. Below is the fight card as of this writing:

  • Jaime Munguia vs. Patrick Allotey: WBO junior middleweight title
