NWA VP Dave Lagana: Turner Approached Us About Doing A Show For B/R Live In 2017
NWA Vice President discusses upcoming tv debut.
The wrestling landscape will get a little more crowded in the fall after it was announced that the National Wrestling Alliance would begin a new television series. NWA Vice President David Lagana joined Busted Open Radio to discuss why it is the right time for the NWA to debut on tv.
“The lesson we learned at Crockett Cup; these fathers and sons, who came to Crockett Cup, that’s how this gets passed down,” said Lagana. “A brand that is accessible for these fathers to share with their sons. What they loved. It’s something that, in this time period, is really great. It’s not our sole target audience, but it’s a unique time to be creating this marketplace. We’ve been targetting this show for a while and the opportunity came up. This is Billy deciding, ‘you know what, we’re gonna do it on our own.’ I know a lot of people have a lot of questions; how, who, what, where, when, why?. The ‘why?’ is simple. We want to prove that what we’ve been executing for two years is what you will see in the television product.”
Bully Ray asked Lagana where fans will be able to watch the show later this year. Lagana didn’t give a network or service but did drop a couple of clues as to what fans can expect.
“Where is to be revealed when the timing is right. It’s funny you say, ‘we’re coming to television.’ Everything is on television right now. The landscape has changed. Getting on a cable network, just to put a show on because that’s what you did in the 90s, 80s, 70s, the world changes. This show will be accessible to as many people as possible, and we want to remain as much in control as possible,” revealed Lagana. “Billy and I met with Turner back in December 2017 to explore doing this show. They called us. And they wanted to have us produce a studio wrestling show for Bleacher Report Live. Ultimately, when the merger with AT&T happened, they put everything on hold, and they’ve decided to go with AEW, which is awesome because that is a much more blown-out show for cable. Our goal is to bring back studio wrestling.”
Lagana went on to say that the company is hoping to draw around 200 fans for the show.
