Cody Says AEW EVPs Have Matured When It Comes To Communicating With Wrestlers From Other Companies

Cody promotes AEW’s first show in D.C..

All Elite Wrestling is on the road to their ‘All Out’ show which will be held at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois and following that show, the company kicks off their weekly television series on TNT from Washington D.C.. Thus far, Cody Rhodes versus Sammy Guevara, The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) versus Chris Jericho and two mystery opponents, a live appearance from Jon Moxley and the crowning of the first-ever AEW Women’s World Champion has been announced for AEW’s debut show on TNT.

To promote that show, AEW co-Executive Vice President Cody joined 106.7 The Fan Radio with Chad Dukes and during their conversation, Cody was asked about the conversations he’s had with wrestlers that are signed outside of AEW. Rhodes stated that there is a brotherhood and sisterhood in wrestling that calls for those conversations but added that he, Nick Jackson, Matt Jackson and Kenny Omega have had to “grow up” in regards to those conversations becoming more than friendly.

“Sure, and that is a really great question, and I can talk about it. You’ve got to basically differentiate. The tricky thing is we’re friends. We are all brothers in arms, sisters in arms in this industry. We’re the ones who go out there and take the bumps. Nobody sitting in a corporate office is taking those same bumps, or on the road and in between the ropes. So there’s a camaraderie there and there’s a level of, we’re allowed to talk with anybody we want to talk to, as friends, but when it gets beyond friendly and it gets beyond personal, that’s an area where I’ve had to grow up, and Matt, Nick and Kenny have had to grow up, and that’s an area where we’ve had to, ‘Okay, well we can’t talk to you, cause you’re under contract.’ Or, ‘We can talk to you, but it will be at this date’ and that’s not always easy for some of your friends.” He continued, “That’s not the easiest pill to swallow, when everybody just wants to kind of… you know, you’ve got to just separate and differentiate when you’re talking as friends and when you’re talking in business.”

Cody recently responded to Vince McMahon’s “blood and guts” comment and to watch that video, head over to Fightful’s “videos” section.
