Stephen Thompson Looking To Return At UFC 244

Stephen Thompson was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night Nashville, suffering a second round knockout loss to former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis

The fighter is ready to return to the Octagon and he would like that bout to happen against former UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC 244.

“I know me and RDA are both coming off a loss, so might be a good time for him to heal up and maybe make that happen at MSG, so that would be cool,” Thompson said backstage at UFC 240 (via Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie).

Dos Anjos last competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night San Antonio, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Leon Edwards

Thompson is also willing to fight anybody else ranked in the UFC Welterweight Division at UFC 244 if Dos Anjos is unavailable.

“Everything’s feeling good, back into training hard full force, and hopefully I’ll be fighting again at Madison Square Garden. November is the plan,” Thompson said. “Don’t know who yet, but we’ll see. I know Robbie Lawler has a fight coming up so, yeah man, I’m looking at somebody in the top five, and I’m ready to get back out there and do it again.”

UFC 244 takes place on Saturday, November 2 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
