Exclusive: Matt Striker Discusses Learning From Vince McMahon, Kevin Dunn And Others, Teaching Seminars

Matt Striker was a teacher turned wrestler, then a wrestler turned broadcaster turned teacher again. It’s the circle of life.

Striker made the transition from full time school teacher to pro wrestler, but has since had a long career in broadcasting. When speaking with Striker recently, Fightful learned Striker’s thought process that led to the move. For Striker, it’s something that he was brought up in the best way possible.

“The thing I’m noticing is that a lot of people don’t realize there are so many elements and aspects. People call it a business. I didn’t get into a business. I got into a sport. Then I realized there’s a business side to it. As far as other wrestlers trying to do it, it’s not easy. And I’m fortunate to have gone to the Harvard of pro wrestling. Whether you like them or not—WWE. I learned from Vince McMahon. I learned from Kevin Dunn. I learned from Triple H, from Arn Anderson, from William Regal, from Dean Malenko. That’s an education that cannot be replicated,” Striker told us.

In addition to teaching in the classroom, Striker teaches in the ring. He’s a regular in leading seminars, as seen with Warriors of Wrestling and Highspots.

“I love doing the seminars. And I like to break it down to one simple question for all. It goes beyond wrestling, this goes out for people. Why? Why are you doing this? Why are you making this decision? Why are you allowing something to have control over you? Rob Van Dam and Jerry Lynn just did a panel, and Rob talked about mental health and talked about depression. To me, when you give something power to impact your life, that to me is a choice. So finding out why we make these choices is so vital to me and the seminars are a great way for me to disseminate that information,” said the former school teacher.

The 45-year old Striker remains active in the ring, working for the likes of Wrestlecon, NYCW, ICW, Blitzkrieg Pro and others in 2019.
