ShoBox: The New Generation (7/12/19) Results: Jermaine Franklin Gets Controversial Win In Main Event

The July 12 ShoBox: The New Generation card was a show filled with controversy, especially as it pertains to its two heavyweight fights scheduled for the broadcast.

In the main event, unbeaten heavyweight prospect Jermaine Franklin Jr. defeated Jerry Forrest by split decision in what some have called a robbery, believing that Forrest had clearly won the fight. Franklin won the bout with judges Alan Krebs and Tim Wood scoring it 97-93 each in favor of him while judge Hunter Walton had Forrest winning 96-95. Showtime’s own unofficial judge had Forrest winning 97-93.

The fight began with an explosive series of punches exchanged by the two of them, but Forrest got the better of those exchanges, landing the left hook and uppercut with relative ease while Franklin struggled to keep up with at times. Franklin was the more active fighter, but it was Forrest who kept landing better punches much more often. The bout ended with another furious exchange of punches that had the crowd at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington on its feet.

As for the other heavyweight bout scheduled for the broadcast, Otto Wallin vs. BJ Flores, that was officially scrapped minutes before the show went on the air after it was revealed that Flores was not medically cleared to compete. The fight was canceled and the event was changed to a doubleheader with a with a super featherweight fight between Giovanni Cabrera Mioletti and Luis Porozo.
