Fabricio Werdum Plans On Fulfilling UFC Obligations

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum is currently serving a two year suspension for failing a drug test administered by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

A suspended Werdum can return to action next year and the former champion plans on finishing his UFC obligations when eligible to compete again.

“I have two more UFC fights,” Werdum said to Combate. “I tried to terminate the contract, but they didn’t let me, because I’m a former champion and they still wanted me around, so cutting ties right now is out of the table. But if I had the possibility before, I would, because of my age, it would be better for my career. Since it wasn’t possible, I’ll stay fight two more times. Let’s see how it goes in the future.”

Werdum has two fights left on his UFC contract and would be free to sign anywhere else once the deal has been completed.

While Werdum would stay with the UFC when the current contract expires, it would have to happen with a few guarantees from the promotion.

“If the UFC gave me a guaranteed three, four, five-year contract, I would stay,” Werdum said. “I would fight four, five more times and then I would end my career and would stay as a commentator. If not, I’m moving to another promotion.”

The former heavyweight champion last competed in the main event of UFC Fight Night London, suffering a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov.
