Report: UFC Signs Istela Nunes
There is a new threat reportedly making her way to the UFC Women’s Strawweight Division as the UFC has signed Istela Nunes to a multi-fight contract.
MMA Premium first reported the signing, but didn’t specify the length of the contract or any financial numbers associated with the deal.
Nunes (6-1-0-1NC) enters the UFC while on the strength of a one fight winning streak and having won four of her last five bouts. Nunes has challenged for the One Championship Women’s Atomweight Championship, losing to Angela Lee via second round submission at One Championship: Dynasty Of Heroes. Nunes has competed seven times as a professional MMA fighter and more than half of her bouts have gone the distance. Nunes will also be competing for the first time in over a year when she makes her UFC debut, as the fighter hasn’t competed since July of 2018.
No word has been given at this time as to when Nunes will make her UFC debut or whom that opponent is going to be when that happens. Jessica Andrade is the current ruler of the UFC Women’s Strawweight Division, having won the gold by defeating Rose Namajunas via second round knockout at UFC 237.
