Hughie Fury To Fight On Amir Khan Undercard In Saudi Arabia
The upcoming boxing card held in Saudi Arabia will have another British star competing in one of the marquee matchups.
Former British heavyweight champion Hughie Fury will face Samuel Peter in the co-main event of the July 12 from the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This will be Fury’s second fight of 2019 after nursing injuries for several months.
A former world title challenger, Fury had a shot of getting back into title contention last year but lost an eliminator for the IBF belt with a loss to Kubrat Pulev in Bulgaria. Since then, Fury has had to vacate his BBBofC British title, but most recently came back in May on an MTK Global card in Manchester, knocking out Chris Norrad in the second round.
Peter was a heavyweight contender for nearly a decade, taking on multiple notable fighters at the time, including facing both Wladimir and Vitali Kiltschko in world title fights. Peter also owns a couple of wins over James Toney and has faced the likes of Robert Helenius and Pulev throughout his career. The 38-year-old Peter was away from the sport for more than two years after a 2016 loss to Pulev but since returning to action earlier this year, Peter has gone on to win two of his last three fights.
The card will be headlined by Amir Khan vs. Neeraj Goyat for the newly-created WBC Pearl belt and will be televised in the UK live on Channel 5. No American broadcast plans for the card has been announced. Also on tab for the event is an IBO bantamweight title bout between Prince Patel and Michell Banquez while Lerato Dlamini takes on Dave Penaloza for the vacant WBC Silver featherweight title.
