WWE Champion Kofi Kingston To Star In WWE Studios & Netflix’s ‘The Main Event’
New details have emerged about Netflix and WWE Studios’ upcoming film, The Main Event.
According to Deadline, Seth Carr, who played a young Killmonger in Marvel’s Black Panther, is set to star in the film alongside industry veterans Tichina Arnold, Ken Marino and Adam Pally. Joining them will be WWE Superstars Kofi Kingston, Sheamus, The Miz, and more.
Kingston, the current WWE Champion, has yet to star in a live-action feature film. Sheamus most notably appeared as Rocksteady in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, while Mike “The Miz” Mizanin has been a mainstay in WWE Studios’ The Marine series.
The story will follow an 11-year old aspiring wrestler who discovers a magical mask and enters a competition to become the next WWE superstar.
Filming is set to begin this week in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jay Karas, who has worked on numerous television programs, will serve as the director, from a script by Larry Postel. WWE Studios’ Richard Lowell is producing with Susan Levison and Maggie Malina as executive producers.
The Main Event, which is slated to premiere in 2020, joins Netflix’s growing catalogue of original family-friendly movies.
WWE Studios most recently produced Fighting With My Family for MGM and Seven Bucks Productions.
