Henry Cejudo Undergoes Left Shoulder Surgery

After a spectacular start to 2019, Henry Cejudo’s octagon return will likely have to wait until next year, suffering a shoulder injury at UFC 238.

One of the year’s most successful fighters thus far has likely fought his final fight of 2019, with Henry Cejudo undergoing left shoulder surgery after tearing his subscapularis muscle at UFC 238.

The news was reported by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, with Cejudo telling ESPN that he suffered the injury in the very first round of his title bout with Marlon Moraes. Cejudo went on to win that bout regardless, scoring an impressive 3rd Round TKO and becoming a two-weight world champion as a result.

This isn’t the only injury that’ll be linked to Cejudo’s Bantamweight Title triumph either, with the double-champion previously announcing that he’d injured his ankle just days prior to the bout as well. However, he tells ESPN that the ankle injury will thankfully not require surgery.

Regardless, the report states that doctors have told Cejudo that it’ll likely be four or five months until he’s even cleared to fully train again. With that in mind, it feels unlikely that we’ll see Cejudo back in the octagon before 2020.

Fortunately, his body of work speaks for itself, stopping T.J. Dillashaw in just 32 seconds before building on that win with a sublime showing opposite Moraes. Following his Bantamweight Title win, Cejudo even suggested a move to Featherweight but for now at least, it seems those plans will have to wait.
