Eva Wahlstrom To Defend WBC Super Featherweight Title On UFC Fight Pass In August

Eva Wahlstrom’s first fight after a loss to current undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor is headed to Las Vegas.

Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions announced that Wahlstrom will defend her WBC super featherweight title on August 2 against Yareli Larios. The fight will headline a boxing card that will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Wahlstrom won the WBC title all the way back in 2015 when she won a 10-round decision against Natalia Vanesa del Valle. Since then, she has gone on to defend the belt four more times with wins over the likes of Dahiana Santana and Anahi Esther Sanchez. Since Wahlstrom has not defended the belt since a majority decision win against Melissa St. Vil in April 2018, the WBC decided to create an interim title, which was won by Elhem Mekhaled on March 16.

But Wahlstrom didn’t stay idle after that win against St. Vil, however. Wahlstrom moved up in weight this past December when she challenged then-unified WBA and IBF lightweight champion Katie Taylor at Madison Square Garden. Taylor would go on to defeat Wahlstrom by unanimous decision in their title clash, handing Wahlstrom her first pro loss.

Larios will be fighting for the first time in her pro career, but is coming into the fight having won just one fight in her past four. Larios has not fought since losing an eight-round bout against Mikaela Mayer back in August.

This will be the second boxing world title fight that will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass ever since Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions and UFC signed a multi-fight deal. The first one will take place on June 19 in Japan when Kazuto Ioka and Aston Palicte fight for the vacant WBO super flyweight title.
