James Vick vs. Dan Hooker and Ray Borg vs. Gabriel Silva Set for UFC Fight Night San Antonio
Two new fights have been added to UFC Fight Night San Antonio, with James Vick fighting Dan Hooker as Ray Borg takes on Gabriel Silva
UFC Fight Night San Antonio has two new fights set for its July 20th date.
At Lightweight, James Vick will take on Dan Hooker while down at 135 lbs, Ray Borg meets Gabriel Silva. At 15th on the UFC’s Lightweight standings, Vick has recently struggled after previously experiencing a tremendous run of form. His four fight win streak ended in August 2018, being stopped by Justin Gaethje and since then, Vick has been outpointed by Paul Felder too. Suddenly riding a very different kind of streak, Vick will be desperate to return to the win column opposite Hooker.
The New Zealander enters in relatively similar form, recently having his own win streak halted in quite memorable fashion. After scoring four straight finishes, Hooker received a major opportunity against longtime contender Edson Barboza but struggled mightily, eventually being stopped in the 3rd round. Hooker’s performance was admirable, showing immense courage but failing to have much success along the way. Nonetheless, that result will be far less devastating if Hooker can defeat Vick on July 20th.
Elsewhere, Ray Borg suddenly finds himself in desperate need of a win after a disappointing night at UFC Fight Night Philadelphia. Almost eighteen months removed from challenging Demetrious Johnson for his Flyweight crown, Borg finally returned to the octagon, this time up at 135 lbs. However, Borg missed weight regardless and was then outpointed by a debuting Casey Kenney. Borg now meets another octagon newcomer, welcoming Gabriel Silva to the UFC stage.
Silva is undefeated at 8-0, most recently knocking out Jake Heffernan in his only Legacy Fighting Alliance appearance. The promotion revealed these two new fights to the San Antonio Express-News earlier today.
UFC Fight Night San Antonio takes place on July 20th at the AT&T Center and will air on ESPN. The event is still without a main event but will feature the Heavyweight grudge match between Greg Hardy and Juan Adams.
