Anthony Joshua: “Wilder And I Need To Sit Down Man To Man And Talk”
Although Anthony Joshua’s hands are currently full with his upcoming fight against Andy Ruiz Jr., he does have some thoughts regarding a fight against Deontay Wilder and wants to have a sit-down with the WBC champion.
During the open workouts for his fight against Ruiz, Joshua commented on Wilder’s first-round knockout over Dominic Breazeale on May 18. Joshua said he was very impressed with the way Wilder beat Breazeale and added that he wants to sit down with Wilder in order to work out some type of deal in the hopes of facing each other down the line.
“Oh, that was a good one, that was a good one! I am going to be in there in the first round trying to knock out Ruiz but if it don’t happen, it don’t happen. But as long as I get the win, it puts me on that path. And like I have said before, I think Wilder and I need to sit down man to man and talk about how we get this fight made,” Joshua said.
Joshua’s comments were made hours before Wilder would announce on social media that he would have a rematch against Luis Ortiz next. No date or venue was announced for the WBC heavyweight title rematch.
Before Joshua can seriously think about sitting down with Wilder about discussing a heavyweight superfight, he will have to defeat Ruiz and retain his unified titles. Fightful will have live coverage of the entire card from Madison Square Garden, which also includes a WBA super middleweight title bout between Callum Smith and Hassan N’Dam as well as Katie Taylor vs. Delfine Persoon for the undisputed women’s lightweight titles.
