EXCLUSIVE – Ace Romero Discusses AEW Double Or Nothing; Says They Haven’t Found Pounce Victim
Ace Romero speaks to Fightful ahead of AEW Double or Nothing.
The Casino Battle Royale at All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing features some of the top Independent talent in the world, all vying for a shot to be crowned the first-ever AEW World Champion. The 21 wrestlers in the Casino Battle Royale all have their different strengths and weaknesses, but no one in the bout will be able to match the size and strength of Ace Romero.
Fightful’s Andrew Thompson caught up with Ace at Starrcast II and asked him how he was feeling ahead of the important match.
“I’m feeling good and confident. I’m ready to go. I’m cutting pounds to be a little more agile, a little tougher. I’m gonna take home the win.”
When asked about challenging the winner of Chris Jericho vs. Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title, Ace said, “Doesn’t matter [if it’s Chris Jericho or Kenny Omega]. I’d beat them both in the same night if I had to.”
While the Casino Battle Royale is a high stakes bout on the Buy In pre-show, Double or Nothing is filled with intriguing bouts up and down the card. And Ace has his eye on one match in particular that he’s looking forward to the most.
“Cody and Dustin. It’ll be an interesting one. It’s gonna be a killer, a lot of emotion going into it. Big history. “
Before he joined AEW, Romero became a viral sensation in 2018 when he launched Anthony Gaines out of the ring during an Empire State Wrestling event. The video caught the eye of Cody Rhodes, which led to him officially joining the promotion.
Romero said of the pounce heard round the wrestling world, “It was pretty crazy. As soon as we collided and made impact, he was gone. They still haven’t found the guy. He’s gone.”
Along with working this weekend’s All Elite Wrestling event, Romero is a regular in Major League Wrestling. He made his MLW debut in November 2018 and recently took part in their television tapings over WrestleMania weekend. Romero said of Court Bauer and the MLW staff, “It’s a great experience [in MLW]. They all have a lot of knowledge and experience behind them. It’s cool to be there, sitting under their learning tree. “
Fightful will provide live coverage of AEW Double or Nothing, including the Buy In pre-show, on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
