It was rumored that Kownacki could potentially face former European heavyweight champion Robert Helenius, but now appears set to face Arreola. Kownacki, a popular fighter in New York who has fought at the Barclays Center in six of his last seven fights, has won all 19 of his pro bouts.
Kownacki is coming off a second-round stoppage win against former title challenger Gerald Washington on the January 26 PBC on Fox main card from Brooklyn. The 30-year-old fighter, ranked No. 5 by the WBC, No. 13 by the WBA, No. 4 by the IBF and No. 15 by the WBO, also owns a win over former world champion Charles Martin and title challenger Artur Szpilka.
Arreola is on a two-fight win streak since returning to the ring late last year after being away from the sport for two years. The 38-year-old Arreola has challenged for the WBC heavyweight title three times throughout his career, but was unsuccessful in fights against Deontay Wilder, Bermane Stiverne and Vitali Klitschko. Arreola is coming off a third-round win against Jean Pierre Augustin back on March 16.
