Report: Alexis Davis vs. Viviane Araujo Set for UFC 240

Viviane Araujo is reportedly set for a swift return to the octagon, receiving a top 10 opponent in just her 2nd UFC outing.

After winning her UFC debut on just four days notice, Combate’s Raphael Marinho reports that Viviane Araujo is already set to return, taking on Alexis Davis at UFC 240.

Usually a Strawweight, Araujo (7-1) took on Talita Bernardo at Bantamweight, winning by 3rd Round KO in the UFC 237 opener. That win was undeniably, impressive considering the circumstances but Araujo is now headed down to 125 lbs, taking on Davis at Flyweight. That division still remains above Araujo’s preferred weight class of course but for the newcomer, a top 10 opponent was seemingly too great of an opportunity to pass up.

Davis is currently ranked 7th in the division’s UFC rankings, losing two straight after arriving at Flyweight with a victory. Most recently, Davis (19-9) dropped a unanimous decision to Jennifer Maia, the same result she suffered opposite Katlyn Chookagian in July of last year. The far more known half of this particular bout, Davis will likely enter a favorite to end her recent struggles in form.

UFC 240 takes place on July 27th in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It’s scheduled main event is a Featherweight Title fight as Max Holloway defends his crown opposite Frankie Edgar. The pair have been booked to fight twice before but both will be hoping that this will be a matter of third time’s a charm. Either way, that event airs on ESPN+ PPV and currently features other fights such as Erik Koch vs. Kyle Stewart and Lauren Murphy vs. Mara Romero Borella.
