Cris Cyborg to Felicia Spencer: “Challenge Accepted”

After successfully making her UFC debut, Felicia Spencer says it’d “be an honor” to fight Cris Cyborg. The former champion has already responded.

At UFC Fight Night Rochester, Felicia Spencer made the perfect octagon debut.

Submitting Megan Anderson in the very first round, Spencer immediately placed herself among a very shortlist in title contention. The former Invicta Featherweight Champion, Spencer entered the UFC undefeated and after one fight, she’s stayed that way too. 145 lbs has been a somewhat difficult division to build for the UFC but in Spencer, they may have a new weight-class cornerstone.

“I want to be the face of the division,” Spencer told TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter. Currently not interested in a drop to Bantamweight, Spencer is instead focused on her Featherweight foes. In particular Cris Cyborg, who Spencer said it “would be an honor” to fight, “absolutely.”

Not overly experienced in having challenges thrown in her direction, Cyborg was quick to respond, taking to Twitter and suggesting a date as well:

Clearly desperate for an octagon return, Cyborg is offering to fight Spencer in her home country. She’d obviously enter a favorite nonetheless, going over a decade undefeated until her fight with Nunes. In a wild shootout, Nunes dethroned Cyborg in December 2018, becoming double-champion with a 51-second knockout. Cyborg hasn’t fought since but as the tweet above suggests, she’s desperate to change that as soon as possible.

As for Spencer, this potential fight presents an opportunity to take another step forward in her mission. Though she was knocked out by Nunes, Cyborg was the face of Featherweight female fighting for a decade and by beating her, Spencer would come closer to achieving that very feat. Either way, Spencer’s octagon stint certainly begun ideally at UFC Fight Night Rochester.
